We want childhood to have time to play.
A preschool where play is part of how children learn, within a clear daily rhythm and with adults who observe closely and know when to step in.

A day at Borboleta
Children know what to expect from the day.
And within that sense of security, they have room to explore, make choices and follow their own ideas.
Some moments are part of our everyday rhythm: arriving, coming together, playing, eating together, spending time outside and sharing moments as a group. That rhythm repeats each day and helps children know where they are in the day, anticipate what comes next and feel secure.
Within that structure, not everything is decided by adults. Teachers prepare spaces and invitations, stay close to what is happening, and leave room for children to try something, change their minds, follow an interest or find their own way through a challenge.
The routine sets the rhythm; it doesn’t write the script.

How we learn
Play opens up possibilities.
Our role is to prepare the environment thoughtfully and observe how each child engages with it.
We prepare open-ended materials, spaces and invitations that encourage children to experiment, imagine, build, combine things, talk or move, while leaving room for each child to explore them in their own way.
From there, we observe what each child does and decide how to support them. Sometimes we give them time and simply watch; other times we ask a question, bring in a material or put words to what is happening to help the experience move forward.
What matters is not that everyone arrives at the same result, but what happens throughout the experience... that children truly get to experience what they are learning.
Adults are present, even when they’re not directing every step.

Growing at Borboleta
Different ages, different stages, one place to grow together.
At Borboleta, children learn in mixed-age groups. There are moments when younger and older children share the same space, and others when we work in smaller groups so we can better support a particular experience or need.
Together
In smaller groups
Each child from where they are
Younger children watch, imitate and gain confidence. Older children learn too, as they wait, help and share.
Not everything happens as one big group. Sometimes we make the group smaller to create a calmer setting, offer more individual attention or introduce a different kind of challenge.
We look at each child individually and support their current stage and their own way of taking part.
Growing together means learning from different places.

The people who support them
Supporting children well takes learning too.
At Borboleta, we want children to be with adults who truly know them. That closeness is built in everyday moments, but it also takes professional judgment to understand what is happening and how best to respond.
Before the children arrive, we spend several days preparing and training as a team. Throughout the year, we continue reflecting on our practice during staff development meetings and make adjustments when needed.

Preparation does too.
Warmth matters.
